Caitlin Castagnola

Caitlin Castagnola received her bachelor’s in Neuroscience and Psychology from Boston University in 2017. After graduating, she joined Dr. Marc Tessier-Lavigne’s lab at Stanford University as a research assistant studying activity-dependent structural neuroplasticity. Along the way, she became increasingly interested in the interactions between neurons and non-neuronal cells, particularly in the context of neuroinflammation.

Caitlin’s project in the Gan Lab focuses on how microglia may be contributing to aberrant neuronal activity in Alzheimer’s mouse models. When she’s not in the lab, she either has her head in a Terry Pratchett book or she’s searching for the next concert to attend.

Research Interests: The bidirectional interactions between microglia and neurons and how they change during chronic neuroinflammation

Hobbies: Crochets and plays squash
